A ‘Bollywood blunder’?

I love Deepika’s looks. She is one of the perfect canvases to style in the Indian cinema industry. So, when The Daily Mail called Deepika’s MTV EMA 2016 look a ‘Bollywood blunder’ I just had to take a more thorough look than a passing appreciative glance.

The collaborative creative juices of Stylist Shaleena Nathani and Monisha Jaisingh were right on point. The look is sexy but strong, glamourous with all the bling on the bustier and quite on-trend. I feel it’s taken Deepika’s character in XXX- the return of Xander cage in mind. The look reminds me of a female fatale letting her hair down but somehow still on mission. The hair and makeup geniuses of Daniel Bauer are so on point here that it is difficult to imagine it any other way.

So far so good. Now the ‘blunder’. I looked at the pictures from all the different angles, well how many ever I could find on the internet. At the inital look, I did think the proportions looked a little off. The massive drape of the skirt reminded me of Angelina Jolie’s Atelier Versace gown she wore to the Oscars 2012, where she had to keep making, umm postural adjustments. Well, didn’t do to it for Angelina and it kind of tipped off Deepika’s otherwise sinfully proportionate body.

The belt just didn’t gel in the whole scheme of things which is a shame because it’s a beautiful belt. Loved the  Valliyan earrings on her but the there were so many statement accessories put together that it got a little OTT and came out looking trying too hard to stand out.

At the end of it I would just say, there’s a lot to learn from this look, both, inspirational and a few errs. The one thing I am super glad and proud of is that our girl wore an Indian designer, and even with a few misses she still looked stunning.
